Since 1998, Formosa Marine has been driven by an unquenchable thirst for adventure and a passion for crafting boats that can take you anywhere. Born from a love for design, fabrication, and the thrill of exploring Brisbane’s Moreton Bay, Formosa Marine has grown into a powerhouse for those seeking freedom on the water. Our boats evolved, growing larger and more capable, just as the demand from fellow adventurers expanded. Now operating out of our own facility in Lytton, just a stone’s throw from where it all started, we’re still powered by the same adventurous spirit.
With decades of hands-on experience, an approachable team of boating enthusiasts, and a dedication to quality, Formosa Marine builds boats that are ready for any journey. Our goal is to get you out there—exploring, fishing, and embracing the freedom of the open water—with a vessel designed to last for years of unforgettable adventures.
Over 25 Years of Adventure and Innovation
Formosa Marine has been pushing the boundaries of aluminium boat building for over 25 years, celebrating over two decades of craftsmanship and continuous growth. Yet, the story of Formosa began even earlier, with a passion for boat building that took root well before our official launch. In the early days, our boats made their way to locals and adventurers heading up north to the Northern Territory—facing some of the toughest conditions imaginable. It was here that our pursuit began: to build the toughest boats, capable of withstanding anything the Australian environment could throw at them. Not only did our boats conquer the waters, but they also endured being dragged over rocks and trailered through the harshest terrains.
These early challenges forged Formosa’s reputation for strength and quality. Even today, some of our early models can still be spotted at local boat ramps, a testament to their durability. As our models increased in size, so did our capabilities. We trained a team of skilled boat builders who helped launch the ‘Tomahawk’ offshore range and pioneered innovations like the Formosa Self-Draining Deck. In 2011, driven by our passion for design and fabrication, we introduced the SEA-ROD range—marking a new era for Formosa Marine. The SEA-ROD line reignited our creativity and led to the birth of features like the Active Transom and the Counterbalance Water Ballast.
Today, after countless tests and innovations, we have combined the very best of our 25 years of boat building into the Formosa SRT. With SR standing for SEA-ROD and T for Tomahawk, the SRT series embodies everything we’ve learned: toughness, functionality, and a relentless drive to create the perfect adventure vessel. Building on this legacy, we launched the GRT range—our new compact plate series that brings the toughness of a production plate boat into a small package. The GRT range continues our mission of delivering durable, versatile boats that punch above their weight and take on the toughest Australian conditions.

Formosa is proud to be Australian owned and to build boats that are truly Australian made. You’ve read our story above, and there’s no mistaking it—these boats are crafted with passion right here in Australia. Every boat leaving our shed now features the Australian Made Aquatic Weaponry™ graphic on the transom, so anyone following knows exactly who they’re dealing with.
And the name ‘Formosa’? It came from a local street that inspired a young boat builder who was passionate about creating vessels to a specific ‘form’—a perfect tribute to the craftsmanship that defines Formosa today.
4 Year Warranty
Formosa Marine offers a 4-year warranty on the hull structure, ensuring that every boat is free from defects in material and craftsmanship for the original purchaser, covering builds from 2018 onwards. Additionally, Formosa provides a 1-year warranty for all factory-fitted parts and accessories, including cabins, launchers, tops, fittings, and optional extras—recognising the natural wear and movement these components may experience.
