Tested | Formosa SRT 490 Side Console

After a great morning chasing fish, the last thing you want to find under the casting platform of your side console is a bag full of soggy sandwiches.

When Formosa redesigned their Side Console released at the 2019 Brisbane Boat Show, their main focus was on smarter storage solutions.

Being an open boat and one which every person needs deck space to move around, the Formosa Side Console incorporates many storage options to enhance your boating experience.

Formosa’s wide hull and high sides mean you get the ultimate large forward casting deck and a stable and safe platform in which to enjoy a day out with your mates.

Storage solutions include:

  • A high casting deck with strong aluminium structure allows for a Dry Storage Bay, large enough to store a 70L esky.
  • The Dry Storage Bay is designed with a hatch drainage channel to direct water away.
  • Formosa provides an Electric Motor Mount standard on all Side Consoles as standard.
  • A Battery Box behind the casting platform was added to store Batteries for your electric motor mounted on the front.
  • The sleek and curved aluminium Console allows for a deep storage shelf under the console.
  • The Console facia has cup and phone holders and room for flat screen electronics.
  • The Driver’s Sliding Seat Box was designed to move along the pocket forward, backward and away for greater utilization of deck space.
  • The innovative step-down ‘Active Transom’ enhances your boating experience offering the best in transom design and water access on the market. Choose from four designs to suit you, whether it’s fishing, casting, diving or simply lounging on the back.
  • Large deep side pockets allow for a great amount of easy access to storage along the deck and welded high to allow space underneath for your feet for casting and retrieving your fish.

The Side Console is available in sizes 490, 520, 550, 580 and 620 with an aluminium Self-draining deck option, Quad4 water ballast option and Active Transom options available.

With stability, strength and practicality in mind, Formosa has built a new Side Console with plate boat construction with well-considered storage options to help keep your deck area clear of obstructions and allows for a well designed, open fishing platform.
