Established in Brisbane since 1998, Formosa has slowly been building a reputation through word of mouth as one of Australia’s best-designed and versatile range of aluminium boats.

This has been achieved by working closely with our dealers and local Formosa boat owners to bring the strength, performance and design qualities that you the owner are most looking for. Whether you are looking for a fishing workhorse or a weekend family pleasure craft, all our boats are designed with versatility and practicality in mind. Each boat has the same engineering specifications so you can be assured that our famous strength qualities are present in each hull regardless of the size or model, while our spacious layout and freeboard allows you to have the best of both worlds without compromise!

After developing our brand and designs in the pressed boat market, in 2006 we decided to evolve our product to cater for a growing customer base looking for a plate quality boat with the family friendly designs and price of a pressed boat. We started by converting to a 4mm bottom, 3mm side hull as standard (previously optional upgrade) which allowed us to have a modern flat side look, combined with new layout designs and even further hull strength designs not possible with a 3mm bottom.

From 2007, as part of our continual dedication to the advancement of our designs, we have further developed our build process to allow for the introduction of a new hull construction technique featuring fully welded floor ribs and longitudinal hull structure.

Besides giving further strength qualities, unlike the traditional cross bearing rib layout used in pressed boats, this process provides a more consistent hull shape along the keel line — which means a smoother ride and better trim range — plus a firmer underfoot feel as you ride through the chop. Best of all for the consumer we are still able to price our boats to be competitive against like sized 3mm bottom boats while maintaining our existing quality and attention to detail.

In 2009, we are now proud to release the latest stage of evolution in the Formosa product range – the Tomahawk series. Since the launch of our Classic plate range we have been inundated with requests for a self draining deck option. Rather than offer an “add on” version, we have decided to start from scratch and design a whole new series  which takes in a range of new designs that will even further enhance our reputation as a maker  of “Quality build, Ultimate Performance” Boats. 

To distinguish between our established plate range with carpeted plywood floors, we have now re-launched them as Formosa Classic. The new self draining series are called Formosa Tomahawk
